Kingston
- The Executive of the Kingston Field Naturalists' (KFN), an organization
of 300 members devoted to the protection and preservation of wildlife,
voted to support PRK's draft bylaw as an effective means of reducing
the chemical burden on the Kingston environment.
"We
are extremely pleased that the KFN chose to support our campaign",
said Nabil Mailloux, PRK spokesperson. "We believe that support
in our community is growing and widespread, and that City Council
should act in the public interest and adopt a pesticide reduction
bylaw. After all, municipal elections are just around the corner",
he added.
The KFN joins
the Unitarian for Social Justice, Kingston Chapter, the Head of
the Queen's School of Environmental Studies, and several family
physicians who have also publicly endorsed PRK's campaign. Over
2100 people from every voting district in Kingston have signed
petitions urging the City to do just that. Citizens can access
petition copies as well as view the results from their districts
by going to PRK's Electoral Map.
Contact information for each councillor is also available.
To date,
over 50 municipalities, including Cobalt, Perth, and Toronto have
passed restrictive pesticide by-laws in Canada.
