Pesticide Reduction Kingston
(PRK) Official Press Release
Kingston's Youngest Web-Designer
For immediate
release
Nov. 26, 2002
Kingston, Ont. -- Jacob Riha, a grade 3 student in the Limestone
District School Board, may be on his way towards a career in
graphic art design. Jacob is one of the 60 students who submitted
art work to the Pesticide Reduction Kids in Kingston (PRK Squared)
logo competition. A panel of judges selected Jacob's work to
be the official header logo on Pesticide Reduction Kingston's
newly upgraded web-site, which will be operational on Nov. 26th.
"We had over 60 submissions from two elementary schools
in Kingston, and it was very difficult to choose amongst them.",
said organizer Nabil Mailloux. "In the end we chose to
use around two dozen of them permanently on our site, with Jacob's
taking up the banner position on the home page. McDonald's has
also generously offered all of the children coupons redeemable
at their local McDonald's in recognition of their worthy efforts".
In addition to having his work "on the air", Jacob
will also receive a grand prize that was made possible by generous
donations from HMV Records, Sunrise
Records, Jumbo Video, Blockbuster Video, Indigo Books, Modern
Primitive, McDonald's, Pizza Hut, Play 'N Learn, A Novel Idea,
and Grand & Toy. The presentation will be made
by Councillor Leonore Foster on Tuesday, Nov. 26th, in his class
at Duncan McArthur Public School. Jacob's teacher, Krista Esford,
"is so proud of all of the students' work, and is so happy
that their work will be seen by the community".
All of the submissions will be posted for viewing over the next
month at the Pesticide Reduction Kids'
Gallery at www.prkingston.org, a website that is generously
hosted free of charge by Chris Kolokythas of Kingston Links
Inc.. In addition, Connie Morris kindly donated her time to
digitally edit some of the images.
