Gananoque's bylaw!

Peterborough's bylaw!

With the release of the Canadian Parliamentary Standing Committee’s Report on Pesticides: Making the Right Choices, Canadians are more than ever questioning the need for synthetic, chemical-based pesticides for use in normal lawn care.

For this and many other reasons, PRK is committed to bringing about a city by-law similar to By-law 270 in Hudson, PQ, that would restrict the use of “cosmetic” pesticides used in non-agricultural applications. Such a piece of legislation would be flexible enough to exempt agricultural applications as well as allowing pesticides to be used on golf courses with some reasonable restrictions.

In addition, PRK is also promoting alternative methods which are safer and which do not rely on synthetic chemical-based pesticides. Many of these methods can be used to maintain a healthy robust lawn that will be resistant to pests and weeds.

Together, we can change our expectations, our habits, and preserve the quality of our air, land, and water.
